The Hoʻoponopono technique
I love this technique because it is rooted in the need for self love and as a self love advocate I would not be doing my duty if I did not share it.
The practice is a methodology based on the theory that the entire world that we live in, is our own creation. This is total loving responsibility and understanding that the world that we see outside of ourselves is our inner world being reflected back at us. No two people’s view of the world will be the same. Each one of us is unique.
The basic notion is when you change yourself within, through love, you will see that the world outside starts to look and feel different for you.
‘Hoʻoponopono is a Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. The Hawaiian word translates into English simply as correction’ Wiki description
It is a shamanic practice with the message, you are in me as I am in you: A practice that helps us to put things right in our world.
This simple Hawaiian practice has many benefits - yep, lots of benefits. It is a practice that can help you to create peace within and in your interactions with others. On the face of it, it is seen as a meditation practice by many. It is described as a method to create forgiveness and reconciliation in our lives.
Now I have been trying it out, well no point pedalling it to you guys if I hadn’t. I have to be honest I can’t be sure what it does, however it has helped when I have got upset or confused about something. If nothing else, it helps me to re-focus my mind from ruminating about what has happened in a particular situation, this in itself is gold to me.
I normally relax in a chair and put my hand on my heart, close my eyes and repeat the four key phrases below. Or you could do it standing in front of the mirror, if it does not feel too uncomfortable for you. Another way that it could be used is when you get upset, or mad about something, when the incident happens, practice the mantra.
Have a play around with the order and say them in a way that feels right for you. Also if you look online, you will see that there are many articles about it, and often the order is different dependant on the writer. Maybe it really does not matter. Whatever is right for a person at any given time, I guess. I am sure that other people may have different opinion on this, however I believe that rigidity creates stagnation – something that I am working hard to drop in my life.
